Una giornata indimenticabile per la famiglia Caminita, proveniente da New Orleans, quella di visitare Ustica, la terra che ha dato loro i natali. Un viaggio da tempo programmato per rinsaldare quei vincoli affettivi e rivivere il calore umano e le tradizioni che sono state raccontate e tramandate loro verbalmente dai genitori e dai nonni.

Per ritardi causa scioperi aerei si sono fermati sull’Isola solamente nove ore e quindi non hanno potuto attuare quanto programmato in precedenza: – quello di andare all’anagrafe, al Cimitero e incontrare quanto più possibili famiglie “Caminita”. Hanno promesso che ritorneranno perché Ustica è rimasta nei loro cuori.

Il solo Caminita incontrato, ma non per caso, è stato “Peppe” impeccabile guida nel giro in barca con soste per bagno nelle limpide e cristalline acque e visita grotte.

Ottima accoglienza è stata quella al ristorante Sabrina dove sono stati preparati, appositamente per loro, ottimi piatti tipici della cucina usticese. Sono stati serviti antipasti e primi piatti a base di pesce e di verdure e come secondo piatto una tanuta freschissima in crosta di sale. Alla fine, non è mancato il classico squisito gelato casareccio.

È stata una breve visita ma sufficiente per raccogliere informazioni, anche da parte dello “storico” Vito Ailara, che li hanno fatto sentire di appartenere a questi luoghi.

Prima di partire hanno espresso un ringraziamento per quanti hanno favorito la splendida e calorosa accoglienza con una promessa: “ritorneremo! Ustica ci mancherà”.

Una considerazione è d’obbligo – il turismo di ritorno e delle radici per la nostra Isola, che ha sofferto molto l’emigrazione, ha un enorme potenziale ancora inespresso….

An unforgettable and welcoming visit by the Caminita family from New Orleans.

To the Caminita family from New Orleans it was an unforgettable day visiting Ustica,  their birth land.

It was a trip that had been planned for a long  time, to reinforce those bonds of affection and relive the human warmth and traditions that were told and passed down to them verbally by their parents and grandparents.

Due to delays caused by plane strikes, they were on the island for just nine hours, so they could not carry out what they had previously planned: – to go to the registry office, the cemetery and meet as many ‘Caminita’ families as possible. They promised they would return because Ustica remained in their hearts.

The only Caminita member they met, but not by chance, was ‘Peppe’, a flawless guide on the boat tour with stops to swim in the crystal-clear waters and visit the caves.

The welcome at the “Sabrina” Restaurant was excellent, where excellent typical dishes of Ustica’s cuisine were prepared especially for them. Fish and vegetables starters and first courses were served, and a fresh tanuta in a salt crust as a second course. At the end, there was no shortage of delicious homemade ice cream.

It was a short visit, but enough to gather information, including from the ‘historian’ Vito Ailara, who made them feel they belonged to this island.

Before leaving, they expressed their thanks to all those people who had facilitated the splendid and warm welcome with a promise: ‘We will come back! We will miss Ustica’.

One consideration is in order – return and roots tourism for our island, which has suffered so much from emigration, has a huge yet untapped potential…
