Wow!  We absolutely loved our short visit to Ustica.  My great grandparents Gaetano Le Barbera and Guiseppina Manfre sailed from Ustica, eventually settling in New Orleans, in 1866.  We fell in love with the place from the minute we stepped off the ferry from Palermo.  Pietro Bertucci was a wonderful host and guide. Thank you so much, Pietro, for your hospitality. We will never forget the Grotta Segreta. Jana is still raving about the abundance of wild herbs (and the pasta finnochio at Restorante Guilia!) and the beauty of the sea. Salvatore Militello was a great captain and guide aboard the “Tweety” (boat with transparent bottom).  I could feel some strong family ties through our short 24 hour stay.  We will be back!

Wow! Abbiamo apprezzato moltissimo la nostra breve visita a Ustica. I miei bisnonni Gaetano La Barbera e Guiseppina Manfrè salparono da Ustica, stabilendosi a New Orleans, nel 1866. Ci siamo innamorati di questo posto dal momento in cui siamo scesi dal traghetto da Palermo. Pietro Bertucci è stato una  guida meravigliosa. Grazie mille, Pietro, per la tua  ospitalità. Non dimenticheremo mai la Grotta Segreta. Jana è ancora entusiasta per  l’abbondanza di erbe selvatiche (e la  pasta col finocchio al Restorante Giulia!) e la bellezza del mare. Salvatore Militello è stato un grande capitano e guida a bordo della “Tweety” (barca con il fondo trasparente). Ho potuto sentire dei forti legami familiari attraverso il nostro breve soggiorno 24 ore. Ci torneremo!
